What Are Our Past Winners Doing Now?
Kathie Kyre, C/O 2017
“I was fortunate enough to be one of the inaugural winners of the Mildred Hambrick Randolph Scholarship. I came to AI from Virginia in 2014 and immediately got involved with the swim team, FCCLA, KBG, and Astronomy Club. I’ve learned that both high school and college give back what you put into it, so getting involved is crucial. I graduated from AIHS in 2017 and am currently studying electrical engineering at the University of South Florida. I am slated to graduate in the Spring of 2021, and after that, I hope to work for an engineering firm in Washington, DC. Lots of events happen senior year of high school, and lots of choices are made. It’s a stressful time emotionally and financially, and I was lucky enough to have the financial burden of having to purchase a laptop lifted from my shoulders. It was a blessing to know that I had one less thing to worry about before I went off to study. My computer will last me throughout my schooling and I’m so proud to tell people the story of where it came from.”

“I was lucky enough to have been one of the recipients of the Kirby Randolph Scholarship. I started school at Alexis I DuPont High School in 2014 as a freshman and got involved in many extracurriculars including Math League, Science Olympiad, Tennis, and the National Honor Society. I graduated from AI in 2018 and am currently a freshman at the University of Delaware majoring in Medical Diagnostics. At the University of Delaware, I have gotten involved in the Making Doctors organization as well as other cultural/religious organizations. Since applying and going off to college is such a stressful process, not having to find and purchase a new laptop definitely helped me transition better from high school. Even the process of applying to this scholarship helped me transition to college because I received a lot of useful advice on what to expect when going into college and I knew that I had the KRS committee to go to if I ever needed any help or guidance.”
